Thumbtack is seeking a Senior Software Engineer for the Neighborhoods team to build a platform that transforms home care into a collective, transparent journey. You will drive engineering projects, execute new ideas, solve complex technical problems, and collaborate with cross-functional teams. This role involves working on large projects and leading small teams. The ideal candidate has 5+ years of experience, is fluent in a major programming language (Go, Python, Php, Swift, Kotlin, Java), has experience with relational databases (Postgres, MySQL), and leveraging AI coding-agents. They should be curious, data-driven, and a critical problem solver.
Thumbtack is the one app you need to take care of and improve your home — from personalized guidance to AI tools and a best-in-class hiring experience. Every day in every county of the U.S., people turn to Thumbtack to complete urgent repairs, seasonal maintenance and bigger improvements. We help homeowners know which projects to do, when to do them and who to hire from our growing community of 300,000 local service businesses. If making an impact inspires you, join us. Imagine what we’ll build together.
The Neighborhoods team is on a mission to transform how customers interact with Thumbtack by leveraging hyper-local social proof and community-driven insights. We are building the foundational experience that connects homeowners through their shared service needs, turning property care into a collective, transparent journey. Our goal is to empower users to be proactive in caring for their homes by surfacing relevant, real-time service activity in their immediate area, ultimately fostering a more engaging, trust-based marketplace.
Homeowners often face their biggest projects in isolation, with guidance separated from action. Our vision is to bridge this gap, transforming home care from a solitary task into a collective, transparent journey. The Neighborhoods team is redefining how homeowners make decisions by surfacing hyper-local social proof—connecting them to the pros their neighbors already trust and recommend.
Your challenge is to build the platform that enables this paradigm shift. You will be responsible for creating the foundation that makes "knowing who my neighbors use" a reality, balancing rapid innovation to validate these new behavioral signals with the technical discipline to build a scalable, trusted experience. You will be at the forefront of pioneering a new era of home care, where every project feels like a neighborhood-powered collaboration.
Actual offered salaries will vary and will be based on various factors, such as calibrated job level, qualifications, skills, competencies, and proficiency for the role.
