Job Description:
Product Designer II, Commerce Subscription Growth
About Dow Jones Design & Research
Our Design & Research org brings together world-class designers and researchers with a unified purpose: to connect people to the news and information that matters most. We're the strategic force that transforms deep user understanding into exceptional product experiences across our entire portfolio—from The Wall Street Journal to Factiva.
Our integrated approach ensures that research insights directly shape design decisions, while design explorations reveal new research opportunities. Together, we're building coherent, accessible experiences that honor our 135-year legacy while pushing us boldly into the future. We're a globally distributed team spearheading a digital transformation at Dow Jones, newly staffed by industry leaders from Google, LinkedIn, The New York Times, and more. Through our combined expertise in design craft and research rigor, we ensure that millions of users can depend on our platforms for truth in a world full of noise.
About the Role
We're seeking a Product Designer II to join our Subscription Growth design team and help shape the Commerce experiences that turn millions of readers into loyal subscribers across The Wall Street Journal, Barron's, MarketWatch, and our related brands. This role owns end-to-end design execution across the full subscription lifecycle—acquisition, onboarding, subscription management, and conversion optimization—translating business objectives into customer-centric experiences that drive subscription growth and engagement.
As a core member of the Subscription Growth team, you'll move quickly across multiple concurrent workstreams, partnering with Product, Marketing, Engineering, Research, and Brand to ship high-impact, revenue-generating work. You'll drive user flows, interaction design, visual design, prototyping, and experimentation—balancing the distinct needs of each brand with coherent, scalable Commerce patterns. Your work provides continuity across critical FY27 Commerce priorities, setting a high bar for craft while connecting design decisions to measurable subscription outcomes.
The Product Designer II, Subscription Growth & Commerce will report to the Director of Product Design, Subscription Growth.
You Will
- Own end-to-end design for Commerce and subscription experiences across acquisition, onboarding, subscription management, and conversion optimization—taking work from problem definition through launch, then monitoring performance and iterating based on data and user feedback.
- Move quickly across multiple concurrent workstreams, providing continuity across high-impact, revenue-generating initiatives that support our FY27 Commerce priorities without sacrificing craft or rigor.
- Drive the full design craft—user flows, interaction design, visual design, and prototyping—producing polished, production-ready work that engineering can implement with confidence.
- Design and run experiments in partnership with your Triad, forming clear hypotheses, understanding where users drop off in the funnel, and using results to optimize conversion and engagement.
- Work across WSJ, Barron's, MarketWatch, and related brands, knowing where consistency matters and where brand-specific needs call for tailored approaches, and contributing reusable Commerce patterns that build on our Index Design System.
- Partner effectively with Product, Marketing, Engineering, Research, and Brand stakeholders to translate business objectives into customer-centric experiences, presenting your work with clear rationale grounded in design principles and user insight.
- Mentor Product Designer I colleagues through feedback, design pairing, and knowledge sharing, modeling craft excellence and helping them connect their decisions to business outcomes.
You Have
- 3-5+ years of product design experience, with demonstrated ability to own complex features or flows end-to-end, from problem definition through launch and optimization.
- A portfolio showcasing end-to-end design work for complex digital products—ideally conversion-focused experiences in subscriptions, ecommerce, media, or SaaS—that demonstrates strong visual craft and clear thinking.
- Strong visual design craft and attention to detail, with mastery of typography, layout, color, and interaction patterns.
- Excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration skills, with a track record of partnering effectively across Product, Engineering, Marketing, Research, and Brand.
- Hands-on strength across user flows, interaction design, visual design, prototyping, and experimentation, including comfort interpreting funnel metrics and experiment results.
- Strong systems thinking, with experience working within established design systems and contributing patterns back.
- Excellence in Figma, with the ability to create detailed specifications, interactive prototypes, and organized files others can build on.
- Deep understanding of design fundamentals and accessibility standards (WCAG), with the ability to articulate design decisions using established principles.
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in Design, HCI, or a related field is a plus.
Nice to Have
- Experience designing for subscriptions, paywalls, or other conversion-focused commerce experiences
- Background in news media, publishing, or content-heavy products
- Experience with A/B testing platforms and interpreting experiment results
