- Preparation and procurement of environmental permits/approvals for design projects
- Ability to effectively manage workload and shifting priorities
- Field work to support environmental permitting, e.g., wetlands delineations and habitat assessments
- Preparation of technical reports, e.g., Environmental Impact Studies, permit compliance statements, and other permit documents
- Review and report on site plan/subdivision applications
- Desktop review of environmental constraints utilizing NJDEP GeoWeb, USDA Web Soil Survey, USGS StreamStats, ArcGIS, USFWS IPaC, etc.
- Continually improve the skills of coordinating environmental application submissions and approvals
- Coordinate with internal and external project manager regarding projects scope and schedule
- Coordinate with clients and regulatory agencies, including attending meetings
- Continually improve technical knowledge and skill
- Assist others when requested
- The position includes all other responsibilities that may be necessary to fulfill the duties associated with the Associate Scientist role or as may be assigned
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Biology, Ecology, or equivalent
- 2-5 years of experience in environmental science and permitting
- Experience with wetlands delineations, mitigation, habitat assessments, cultural resources
- Knowledgeable with New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection – Division of Land Resource Protection and US Army Corps of Engineers regulations
- Proficient at performing wetlands delineations
- Familiarity with New Jersey vegetation
- Strong communication and technical writing skills
- Ability to work within a team and independently
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills with the ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment
- Excellent computer skills are required. Must be efficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
Preferred Qualifications
- Familiarity with US Environmental Protection Agency review process
- Experience with ArcGIS and/or AutoCAD Civil 3D
- OSHA 40-hour HAZWOPER Training
- Rutgers Wetland Delineation Certificate
- Familiarity with Chapter 12: Soil Testing Criteria of the NJ Stormwater Best Management Practices Manual
