Role Overview  

As a Senior Staff / Staff Engineer on the Security Infrastructure team, you will build the platform that enables Coupang to win and grow our customers’ confidence while rapidly expanding and scaling our services. Specifically, you will work on our dynamic authorization engine, which manages the security risks of all our customer interactions by looking for signs of unusual or potentially malicious activity. This is a critical system which protects both our customers and our company against damage from malicious activity. 

Our work supports teams across Coupang and thousands of microservices. We are looking for engineers who are passionate about building platforms at scale, with emphasis on usability, reliability and efficiency. The successful candidate will be a well-rounded engineer who balances strategic and design thinking with attention to detail in implementation and operations. If that sounds like you, come join us! 

What You Will Do  

In this role, you will: 

• Develop our customer authentication and authorization platforms, and rapidly iterate while collaborating actively as part of a small, highly talented team.
• Partner with teams across the company to understand their current needs and future direction.
• Think systematically to identify technical solutions, balancing strategic goals and immediate impact.
• Demonstrate excellence in architecture and design, resulting in robust and scalable systems.
• Hands-on develop critical infrastructure components.
• Write back-end APIs in Java and Go, using industry-standard frameworks.
• Work across teams to drive platform adoption, helping teams prioritize ruthlessly and “move with urgency”.
• Dive deep into critical system issues, constantly raising the bar on Operational Excellence.
• Serve as a role model for other engineers and shape our team culture.

Minimum Qualifications  

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, business, management and information Services or related quantitative fields
• 5+ years of experience with product management, program management, or marketing channel management working utilizing Agile software development methodologies
• Deep-dive analytical skills that can take ambiguous problems and translate them into scoped features and projects
• Demonstrated ability to understand technical challenges and make educated trade-offs between time, resources, and business needs
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to influence others without authority

Preferred Qualifications  

• 8+ years of experience in product management, program management, or consulting is a plus
• Previous e-commerce or pricing domain experience
• Experience working in international environments and globally distributed teams
• Fluency in English
• SQL/HQL and/or technical development background a plus
