AtkinsRéalis is seeking an experienced Railway Engineering Safety Professional to join their Transportation division, focusing on Assessment Body and ISA activities. This role involves ensuring engineering safety is integral to decision-making on major UK rail infrastructure projects. The Principal Independent Safety Assessment Engineer will act as an Independent Safety Approver, working with clients and stakeholders to define and solve problems, and shape services in the rail industry. The position requires extensive knowledge of independent safety assessment methods, processes, and legislation within the rail domain.

AtkinsRéalis work from a range of locations in the UK. This opportunity with the Safety Engineering and Independent Verification Practice is advertised for positions based within our teams in Derby, Birmingham, and Manchester; other locations will also be considered. The team works predominantly in the UK rail domain with some work internationally.
We help our clients understand assurance requirements and guide them to ensure that engineering safety is integral to the decision-making process. Working across the wider AtkinsRéalis design and delivery teams, we work on many of the major rail infrastructure delivery programmes, including East Coast Digital Program, Transpennine Route Upgrade, and Central Rail Systems Alliance, as well as numerous smaller projects. We support each other to deliver and develop, including taking an active role in various technical and employee forums.
