The Finance Officer role at McGill University is responsible for managing the financial and accounting processes for the Faculty. This position involves developing and implementing financial strategies, overseeing budget build and year-end reporting, and managing daily financial operations. The Finance Officer ensures accurate financial reporting in compliance with GAAP and university policies, supports various academic initiatives with financial expertise, and resolves financial issues between departments and vendors. Position Summary:
The Finance Officer role is responsible for the financial and accounting processes for the Faculty. The incumbent develops and implements strategies to support the monitoring and processsing of financial transactions, and oversees budget build and year-end reporting. The candidate manages the financial operations for the Faculty and supports the recording and internal and/or external reporting of the Faculty’s financial position to ensure an accurate reflection of the financial position through the formulation, administration and implemention of generally accepted accounting principles, regulations and controls.
Primary Responsibilities:

Experience with and a strong understanding of University budgetary accounting system. Excellent organizational skills; proven analytical, planning, and decision-making skills as well as the ability to problem-solve and meet deadlines. Must be client-focused and service-oriented with a proven ability to deal with people at all levels. Demonstrated ability to work with financial statements, prepare reports for auditors and deal with complex accounting issues. Ability to work autonomously and as part of a team. Demonstrated ability to work in a Microsoft Office environment using Banner FIS, Minerva, Crystal Reports, wordprocessing, spreadsheets, and database applications. Knowledge of French and English. McGill University is an English language university where day-to-day duties may require English communication both verbally and in writing. The level of English required for this position has been assessed at a level (#4) on a scale of 0-4.
