Description

Nium provides global infrastructure for real-time cross-border payments. We were founded on the mission to deliver the global payments infrastructure of tomorrow, today. Our platform enables banks, fintechs, and global businesses to move money instantly, everywhere.

Co-headquartered in San Francisco and Singapore with offices in 14 markets worldwide, we are entering one of the most exciting chapters in our journey. In March 2026, we delivered the largest month in our 11-year history with record revenue, record volumes, and EBITDA profitability. Today, Nium moves nearly $60B in payments annually, almost entirely for enterprises, while continuing to strengthen an already healthy balance sheet.

It is an incredible time to join us, and we are only just getting started.

Our payout network spans 190+ countries and 100 currencies, with 100 + corridors in real time. We power seamless transfers to accounts, wallets, and cards, support local collections in 35 markets, and as a principal card issuer on Visa, Mastercard, Discover, and UATP, Nium issues over 50 million card tokens every year. Backed by regulatory licenses in 40+ markets, we make it simple for our partners to onboard, integrate, and scale globally. This scale and innovation have earned us recognition as one of CNBC’s World’s Top Fintech Companies 2025, winner of Best Cross-Border Payments Solution at the PayTech Awards, and inclusion in FXC Intelligence’s Top 100 Cross-Border Payments Companies list.

In 2024, we raised US$50 million in Series E funding at a US$1.4 billion valuation to accelerate network expansion, product innovation, and talent growth. With the B2B payments market projected to hit US$175 trillion by 2030, Nium offers ambitious builders the chance to shape the future of global money movement with the scale of a leader and the energy of a high-growth company.

We're looking for an HR Operations Partner to join Nium's People Team in Malta. As a global fintech scaling across markets, we need someone who thrives in fast-moving, regulated environments and is passionate about building slick, tech-driven HR operations. This is a hands-on role with real regional scope — you'll own end-to-end HR operations for EMEA. If you're someone who spots a manual process and immediately wants to fix it, you'll fit right in.
Responsibilities:

Onboarding & Offboarding

  • Own the end-to-end new joiner experience for Malta, UK, and wider Europe — initiating HRIS profiles, coordinating background checks, managing work permits, and driving benefits enrolment

  • Deliver engaging new joiner orientation sessions that set employees up for success from day one

  • Manage offboarding processes including leaver administration, system access removal, and exit coordination

  •

Payroll

  • Run end-to-end payroll for Malta, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and on-time delivery

  • Partner with payroll vendors across UK, Lithuania, and the Netherlands to manage monthly payroll operations, resolve queries, and maintain data integrity

  • Support payroll audits, reconciliations, and statutory reporting requirements

  •

Vendor & Benefits Management

  • Manage Malta benefits administration including health insurance, life insurance, pension, and other local schemes

  • Own vendor relationships — driving renewals, performance reviews, and ensuring value for money

  • Identify opportunities to consolidate, upgrade, or replace vendors where better solutions exist

  •

HR Operations & Systems

  • Triage and resolve HR support tickets, escalating complex matters where appropriate, and ensuring SLAs are met

  • Maintain accurate employee data across HRIS, supporting audits and compliance requirements

  • Support the drafting and maintenance of HR policies, ensuring they remain compliant with local employment legislation

  • Assist with mobility and right-to-work compliance across jurisdictions

  •

Projects & Continuous Improvement

  • Actively identify and eliminate manual processes, replacing them with scalable, tech-driven solutions

  • Contribute to HR systems projects, integrations, and process improvement initiatives

  • Support wider People Team projects as the business scales

  • Use people data to proactively generate insights for leaders and people managers — from onboarding feedback trends and time-to-productivity analysis to exit interview themes and attrition patterns

  • Don't wait to be asked; build and maintain dashboards or regular reporting cadences that keep stakeholders informed and ahead of people trends

  • Translate raw HR data into clear, actionable narratives that drive better decisions across the business

Requirements:

Essential

  • Experience in an HR operations or generalist role within a regulated industry; fintech or financial services strongly preferred

  • Working knowledge of payroll operations and vendor-managed payroll models

  • Familiarity with HRIS platforms and a comfort working across multiple systems

  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to handle sensitive data with discretion

  • Solid understanding of employment legislation, particularly in Malta; broader European knowledge is a plus

  • Excellent communication skills – able to engage employees and vendors with confidence

  •

Desirable

  • Experience administering employee benefits across multiple jurisdictions

  • Experience supporting right-to-work and immigration processes

  •

The Kind of Person You Are

  • Naturally curious – you don't just do the job, you question whether it could be done better

  • You are a driver, not a passenger – you  take ownership, make things happen, and don't wait for someone else to solve the problem. You see a gap and you close it

  • Comfortable with ambiguity and able to prioritise in a fast-scaling environment

  • Collaborative by nature – you build strong relationships with colleagues, vendors, and stakeholders alike

  • Genuinely excited about AI and what it means for HR Operations – you actively seek out tools, automation opportunities, and smarter ways of working, positioning the People Team as a forward-thinking partner to the business rather than a back-office function
