What you'll be doing
The Global Operational Risk Management Portfolio Management groups act as a 2nd line of defense, ensuring that the bank's operational risk and control frameworks, policies, standards and procedures are understood and used effectively to manage operational risk. This includes working with assigned lines of businesses to identify, measure, monitor and mitigate operational risk. As the Senior Manager, Operational Risk Management - Capital Markets, you’ll ensure specific coverage of Core Capital Markets functions including Global Markets, Investment Banking, Corporate Banking as well as Capital Markets Risk Management (Market, Liquidity and Credit Risk). You’ll also work with the Senior Director on the team’s contributions to senior management reporting, including but not limited to regular operational risk reporting presented to various risk governance committees and internal reporting on key elements of operational risk presented to the VP.

How you'll succeed
- Advisory support and independent challenge - Collaborate with partners in your assigned business and subject matter experts (SMEs) across the 1st line of defense (1LOD) and the 2LOD to ensure Risk Management’s operational risk is appropriately identified/assessed, monitored/measured and mitigated. Be able to demonstrate the qualities of being a pragmatic and solutions-oriented individual.
- Building partnerships and communicate effectively - Build effective working relationships with partners in your assigned business as well as SMEs in both the 1LOD and 2LOD. Form a broad range of contacts and healthy working relations with your peers and other governance teams within CIBC.
- Collaborate - Work with internal and external partners to support creation, production and distribution of operational risk reporting to senior management committees. Identify opportunities to streamline the collection and dissemination of information as well as work with other reporting teams across CIBC to avoid reporting conflicting or duplicative information.
- Risk Reporting – The core requirement of this role is to develop, facilitate, and execute periodic operational risk reporting for the portfolio, which includes Capital Markets, Treasury, Finance, Risk Management and other infrastructure functions. You will also be required to define reporting automation, as applicable, to make current reporting process more efficient and timely.
- Risk Commentary – This role is also expected to be able to examine risk performance data and independently produce detailed written commentary for a variety of audiences, including senior executives, Risk forums, peer groups (e.g., ERM, Internal Audit, Compliance), external stakeholders (e.g., regulators).
- Proactive Oversight – Identify material and emerging risks through proactive monitoring of Key Risk Indicators and External Events, utilizing industry knowledge and professional networks, as appropriate. Effectively communicate areas or concern to ensure appropriate risk mitigation actions are taken.
- Partnership – Build effective working relationships with assigned businesses as well as control groups and other risk associates. Add value to business partners by providing advice on the management of operational risk and controls, including risk mitigation strategies. Promote a ‘controls and operational risk culture’, which includes managing senior internal relationships to promote acceptance and implementation of operational risk and control framework programs. Advanced skills in influencing without authority and creating necessary urgency in stakeholders critical to timely reporting.
Who you are
- You can demonstrate experience in Risk Management and/or other relevant areas including risk governance, controls and compliance; and have experience with one or more areas of the bank’s key risk functions including credit risk, market risk, anti-money laundering/anti-terrorist financing. It’s an asset if you have experience from areas that this role supports including Global Markets, Investment Banking, Corporate Banking, Capital Markets Risk Management or You have current accreditation and good standing in FRM.
