Red Hat's DNS and Operating Systems team is seeking a Principal Information Systems Engineer to drive the evolution of foundational infrastructure services like DNS, Linux and Windows OS platforms, and access control. The role involves setting technical standards, leading architectural decisions, managing infrastructure changes, and contributing to the global on-call rotation. This position requires deep experience in operating RHEL at enterprise scale, building automation with Ansible, managing core enterprise services (DNS, DHCP, proxy), and handling CI/CD pipelines and GitOps. You will also mentor senior engineers and ensure operational excellence through robust documentation and transparent decision-making.
About the Role:
Red Hat's DNS and Operating Systems (D/OS) team owns the foundational infrastructure layer the entire company runs on: DNS, Linux and Windows OS platforms, full-disk encryption, and access and bastion services. We serve everyone from engineering labs to global business operations, and we care about operational excellence, clean automation, and systems that work without heroics. Red Hat is an open source company, and that shapes how we operate - decisions happen in the open, knowledge is shared, and the strongest technical argument wins regardless of title.
We are looking for a Principal Information Systems Engineer who has gone deep in infrastructure and is now as comfortable setting direction as executing it. You will drive how our services evolve, work with team leadership to establish the technical standards the team works to, and serve as a credible technical voice with adjacent teams. The team will bring you up to speed on D/OS-specific tooling and institutional knowledge. What we need from you is the experience and ownership mindset to take real technical authority, ramp quickly, and help us improve our portfolio of offerings.
