The Boring Company was founded to solve the problem of soul-destroying traffic by creating an underground network of tunnels. Today, we are creating the technology to increase tunneling speed and decrease costs by a factor of 10 or more with the ultimate goal of making Hyperloop adoption viable and enabling rapid transit across densely populated regions.
The Boring Company is seeking a highly motivated and skilled Remote Operator to remotely control the various equipment involved in tunneling operations (including the Tunnel Boring Machine). This role is best suited for someone with an aviation, maritime, or military mindset who will develop and follow strict procedures, communicate clearly, and drive consistency across remote operations.
As a Remote Operator, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the smooth execution of our tunneling projects, directly controlling the machine with a high sense of urgency. This role requires a strong operating background (drones, aircraft pilot, air traffic control, nuclear reactors, power stations, or similar) and the ability to work long hours. Remote Operators should expect to spend most of their time working in the Global Operations Control Center (GOCC) and occasionally travel to our various commercial and development projects.
Responsibilities
- Remotely control mining operations from the Global Operations Control Center (GOCC).
- Record and document mining-process failures that affect cost, speed, or reliability.
- Develop and follow documentation (including work instructions, procedures, and bills of materials) that are used to standardize mining operations and maximize project efficiency.
- Ensure compliance with safety protocols and regulations to maintain a secure work environment for all team members.
- Assist in the development and implementation of training programs for field and operations personnel to enhance their technical skills and ensure adherence to protocols.
- Stay up to date with industry trends and advancements in tunneling technology, sharing knowledge and best practices with the team.
Qualifications
- Proven experience in remote-controlled field operations, preferably in a military, aviation, mining, or infrastructure-related industry (pilots, controllers, etc.).
- Strong technical knowledge and hands-on experience with mechanical, electrical, and robotic systems.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to think analytically and strategically.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate and build relationships with diverse teams and stakeholders.
- Flexibility and adaptability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
- Willingness to work long hours, including spending up to 10% of the time in the tunnel (travel away from Global Operations Control Center to actual commercial projects).
- Knowledge of safety regulations and procedures in construction or similar industries.
Culture
We're a team of dedicated, smart, and scrappy people. Our employees are passionate about our mission and determined to innovate at every opportunity.
Benefits
We offer employer-paid medical, dental, and vision coverage, a 401(k) plan, paid holidays, paid vacation, and a competitive amount of equity for all permanent employees.
