Specialist Stroke Medicine - Government Hospital

The Specialist Stroke Medicine is responsible for providing comprehensive assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and ongoing management of patients with acute and chronic cerebrovascular diseases. The role focuses on delivering evidence-based stroke care, coordinating multidisciplinary treatment pathways, supporting rehabilitation planning, and ensuring compliance with UAE healthcare regulations, international clinical guidelines, and government hospital standards.

• Assess, diagnose, and manage patients presenting with acute ischemic stroke, hemorrhagic stroke, transient ischemic attacks (TIA), and other cerebrovascular disorders.
• Provide timely evaluation for thrombolytic therapy and other evidence-based acute stroke interventions in accordance with established clinical protocols.
• Coordinate multidisciplinary stroke care involving neurologists, emergency physicians, neurosurgeons, intensivists, rehabilitation specialists, radiologists, nurses, and allied healthcare professionals.
• Conduct neurological examinations and interpret diagnostic investigations, including CT, MRI, vascular imaging, and laboratory findings.
• Develop individualized treatment plans and oversee inpatient and outpatient stroke management.
• Monitor patients during hospitalization, manage complications, and ensure continuity of care following discharge.
• Lead secondary stroke prevention initiatives, including risk factor management, patient education, and long-term follow-up.
• Participate in stroke code activations and emergency response protocols.
• Maintain accurate, complete, and timely documentation using the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system.
• Participate in multidisciplinary meetings, clinical audits, morbidity and mortality reviews, and quality improvement initiatives.
• Support stroke unit accreditation, clinical governance, and compliance with national and international stroke care standards.
• Educate patients and families regarding stroke prevention, treatment options, rehabilitation, and lifestyle modifications.
• Supervise junior physicians, residents, interns, and other healthcare professionals as required.
• Participate in Continuing Medical Education (CME), research activities, and departmental teaching programs.
• Ensure compliance with infection prevention, patient safety protocols, confidentiality requirements, and government healthcare policies.
• Participate in on-call duties and emergency service coverage as assigned.

Qualifications

• Specialist qualification in Neurology or Internal Medicine with recognized training or fellowship in Stroke Medicine or Cerebrovascular Diseases.
• Fellowship or additional certification in Stroke Medicine, Vascular Neurology, or Neurocritical Care is highly desirable.
