Industrial Mechanic (Orange Walk, OW, BZ)

The position of Industrial Mechanic will be a permanent hourly employee at the Tower Hill Sugar Factory in the Industrial Operations – Boiling House and will be responsible for installing, maintaining, repairing, and fabricating industrial machinery and equipment. Mechanical expertise is required to ensure the efficient operation of industrial facilities.

Qualifications and Experience:

• Tertiary Level Diploma, with Math or Physics Major preferred, minimum requirements are high school diploma or equivalent;
• At least two (2) years’ experience working as an industrial mechanic

Skills and Competencies: 

• Proven experience as an industrial mechanic and welder.
• Knowledge of hydraulics, pneumatics, and mechanical systems
• Ability to read technical manuals, blueprints, and schematics.
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
• Physically able to lift heavy material (50 lbs. on average) without assistance and work in an industrial environment
• Computer literate
• Self-motivated and independent
• Good team player
• Excellent verbal communication skills in English

Roles and Responsibilities:

• Inspect, diagnose, troubleshoot and repair industrial machinery, conveyors, pumps, gearboxes, chain drives and hydraulic systems to ensure they are always in proper working condition
• Locates sources of problems by observing mechanical devices in operation.
• Provide preventative maintenance for machinery and equipment by providing periodic cleaning, adjustment of parts, and lubrication of moving components as needed to ensure proper, efficient function to minimize downtime.
• Dismantling and reassembly of machinery to provide identification, removal and replace defective parts bearings, and gears from the machinery
• Assist with performing MIG, TIG and arc welding on various metals
• Cut, grind and shape metal components using oxy-fuel torches and plasma cutters
• Any additional responsibilities assigned by the immediate supervisor
