- Schedule: Sunday to Thursday, 10:00 PM to 6:30 AM
- This is a temporary position expected to last approximately one year.
What you’ll be responsible for each day:
Ensure that all practices are conducted in a food safe manner and any food safety and quality issues are reported to QC Supervisor/ Manager
- Testing of all raw and finished products, water testing, environmental swabbing, air testing etc, escalate non-complying results to Supervisor/Manager
- Identify and troubleshoot non-complying results and report to QC Supervisor/ Manager
- Perform routine lab assignments such as sample collection and delivery arrangement, quality and organoleptic checks, sanitation inspections, and conducting physical and microbiological testing and analysis from raw to finished product, creating, sending and verifying CoA’s
- Operate and maintain basic laboratory equipment (ie. Scale weights, pH meter, TA, Brix, Cryoscopy, autoclave, Fat analyzer etc.) including equipment verification and calibration activities and routine lab cleaning
- Perform daily verification tasks for scales, temperatures, sanitizers
- Data entry and validation
- Review production records daily to ensure completeness and compliance
- Monitor GMP practices of plant personnel and provide training of quality requirements and procedures
- Perform internal inspections/audits, create cleaning/action lists based on results, follow up on lists
- Allergen testing and appropriate record keeping
- Complete daily shift reports capturing lab activities, upcoming tasks, non-conforming results etc.
- Controlling “ON HOLD” and “RELEASE” mechanisms, extra testing and rechecks as needed
- Help implement procedures to maintain food safety, quality and food defense.
- Attend daily meetings and speak to Non-Conformities, Updates to programs, Hold and Release, as well as Customer Complaints.
- Check for, review, and complete work orders as needed
The individual who will own this role:
- Bachelor’s Degree in a related science or a Diploma in Food Science and Technology
- Experience in a food production facility and/or micro laboratory setting
- Strong understanding of Good Manufacturing Practices and Good Laboratory Practices
- Must be able to consume dairy products and not have any dairy allergies or intolerances
- Ability to detect trends in data and react to make immediate corrections
- Knowledge of SQF, GMP and HACCP are considered an asset
- Strong Excel and computer skills
- Excellent communication skills in English, written and spoken
- Attention to detail and accurate reporting
- Must be able to work in a team or independently, in a fast-paced environment
- Multi-tasking and good time management required
- Ability to problem solve
- Ability to carry up to 20 kg and stand for long periods
