Product Director | Logistics Product | Hybrid Working | Hatfield

Introduction:

We are Ocado Group, and we're bringing world-class automation to online grocery. Our Ocado Smart Platform (OSP) combines cutting-edge robotics, AI, and IoT within our advanced CFCs (Customer Fulfilment Centres). We've mastered the single pick, transforming online delivery for our global partners. Join us and be part of a team pushing the boundaries of retail technology.

About the Role:

As the Product Director for Optimisation and Operations, you will lead the strategic vision, roadmap, and commercial outcomes for a critical part of the Ocado Smart Platform. This core product area spans the entire last mile process, from the moment vehicles are loaded to successful front-door delivery - influencing the largest single cost line for our international partners. Operating at the intersection of complex data science, on-the-ground operational processes, and end-customer experience, you will spearhead high-impact initiatives that directly improve efficiency and delivery accuracy across more than one million orders every week.

In this senior leadership position, you will head and mentor a talented team of around five Product Managers across multiple complex domains, including home delivery optimisation, driver networks, and customer notifications. You will collaborate deeply with Engineering peers across Ecommerce, Fulfilment, and Logistics to deliver robust platform configurations. Furthermore, you will serve as a key relationship owner with major global partners such as Kroger and Ocado Logistics, driving feature adoption and balancing short-term operational requirements with long-term platform automation.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Own and execute the end-to-end product strategy, roadmap, and outcomes for the Optimisation and Operations Product Area.
  • Lead, coach, and develop a high-performing team of approximately five Product Managers.
  • Drive last mile labour efficiency by enhancing algorithms to increase the number of orders delivered per driver hour.
  • Improve driver, yard, and middle mile processes to maximise efficiency while maintaining strict on-time delivery performance.
  • Reduce platform complexity and manual overhead by enabling partners to balance high-level tradeoffs via scalable parameters.
  • Manage strategic relationships with key global partners to ensure alignment on priorities and accelerate feature adoption.
  • Enhance the end-customer experience by improving delivery preference capture, information accuracy, and order status visibility.
  • Streamline development spend and maximise ROI by identifying mature platform areas and validating 3rd party partnerships.
  • Partner closely with Engineering across Ecom, Fulfilment, and Logistics to deliver coherent cross-domain platform solutions.
  • Make clear commercial prioritisation decisions and align senior peers across the wider Ocado Group.

What We’re Looking For:

  • Proven experience leading a complex product area with multiple domains, dependencies, and competing priorities.
  • Strong commercial judgement with a track record of translating product decisions into tangible business value and cost efficiency.
  • Demonstrated ability to build, lead, and develop high-performing product management teams.
  • Exceptional stakeholder management skills with the ability to influence senior peers across Product, Engineering, and international business partners.
  • Comfort making high-quality, decisive choices under conditions of ambiguity, constraint, and operational tension.
  • A desire to go deep into complex architectural problems and navigate environments where automated experimentation can be challenging.

Nice to Haves

  • Valuable expertise in fields such as Last Mile optimisation, complex data science domains, or on-road operational excellence.
