OverviewThe Travel & Expense Transformation Lead is responsible for driving the strategy, modernization, governance, and continuous improvement of Microsoft's global Travel & Expense tools, technology, and services ecosystem. This role owns and drives the business vision, strategy, roadmap, and continuous improvement of Travel & Expense capabilities and partners across Procurement, Finance, Controllership, Tax, HR, Mobility, Engineering, and strategic suppliers to transform how employees plan business travel, manage expenses, process payments, and comply with company policies.The successful candidate will lead complex, cross-functional initiatives focused on simplifying processes, improving employee experiences, increasing automation, enhancing compliance controls, and identifying opportunities to leverage AI, data, and digital capabilities across the Travel & Expense lifecycle. The role will influence business and technology roadmaps and deliver measurable improvements in cost, efficiency, risk management, employee productivity, and customer satisfaction.The ideal candidate combines strategic program leadership with a builder mindset, leveraging AI, analytics, rapid prototyping, dashboard development, and data visualization to accelerate transformation, create compelling business cases and solution concepts, influence decisions through evidence-based insights, and deliver measurable business impact. ResponsibilitiesTransform Travel & Expense Experiences
- Lead strategic initiatives that modernize the end-to-end Travel & Expense experience.Drive simplification, standardization, and automation of travel booking, payment, reimbursement, audit, and reporting processes & tools.
- Identify opportunities to leverage AI, workflow automation, and digital platforms to reduce manual effort and improve user satisfaction.
- Translate business challenges into scalable solutions that improve efficiency and compliance.
- Leverage AI-powered tools (e.g., Microsoft Copilot, Power Platform, low-code/no-code platforms, and emerging AI technologies) to rapidly prototype solutions, create mockups, validate concepts, and accelerate delivery of business outcomes.
- Design and test future-state user experiences through AI-generated workflows, process simulations, wireframes, and solution mockups to improve stakeholder alignment and speed decision-making.
- Identify and implement opportunities for generative AI, intelligent agents, and automation to streamline Travel & Expense processes and enhance employee productivity.
Business Program Leadership
- Manage a portfolio of Travel & Expense transformation initiatives from concept through implementation.
- Develop business cases, investment proposals, success metrics, and executive-ready communications.
- Lead cross-functional teams to deliver complex programs on time and within scope.
- Drive organizational readiness, stakeholder adoption, communication, training, and change management activities to maximize realization of transformation outcomes
- Apply AI-enabled project and program management practices to improve planning, requirements gathering, dependency management, status reporting, and stakeholder communications, enabling faster and more efficient program execution.
- Translate business requirements into prototypes, mockups, process flows, and proof-of-concepts that accelerate alignment between business, engineering, and supplier teams.
- Demonstrate a builder mindset by independently creating lightweight solutions, dashboards, workflows, and prototypes that reduce implementation risk and shorten delivery cycles.
Stakeholder & Partner Management
- Partner closely with Engineering and platform teams to define priorities, shape backlogs, translate business requirements into scalable technical solutions, and deliver capabilities that improve employee experiences and operational effectiveness.
- Balance customer needs, business priorities, operational constraints, and technology investments to identify and prioritize the highest-value transformation opportunities.
- Build strong partnerships across Procurement, Finance, Global Mobility, Tax, Controllership, HR, Security, and Engineering organizations.
- Influence executive and senior stakeholders without direct authority.
- Facilitate governance reviews and drive alignment on strategic priorities.
- Partner with customers to understand pain points and translate feedback into product and process improvements.
Supplier & Ecosystem Strategy
- Partner with travel, payment, expense management, and technology suppliers to improve services and capabilities.
- Support supplier performance management, innovation reviews, and strategic roadmap planning.
- Evaluate emerging technologies and industry best practices to inform future-state planning.Identify opportunities to optimize supplier investments while improving employee experiences.
Data, Analytics & Insights
- Develop KPIs, business health metrics, and operational scorecards to measure program effectiveness.
- Use data and customer insights to identify opportunities for cost reduction, policy optimization, automation, and employee experience improvements.
- Build and maintain executive dashboards using Power BI, Microsoft Fabric, or similar analytics platforms to provide visibility into travel spend, compliance, operational performance, supplier effectiveness, and transformation outcomes.
- Create self-service reporting solutions and data visualizations that enable business leaders to make informed, data-driven decisions.
- Leverage AI-assisted analytics and natural language insights to identify trends, anomalies, risks, and opportunities.
- Build executive-level reporting and recommendations that support strategic decision-making.
- Drive a culture of metrics-based prioritization, experimentation, and continuous improvement.
Compliance, Risk & Governance
- Ensure Travel & Expense tools, platforms, and technology capabilities align with corporate policies, financial controls, security requirements, and applicable governance standards.Partner with compliance and audit teams to improve governance processes.Identify and mitigate operational, financial, and compliance risks through automation and process redesign.Support implementation of controls that reduce fraud, errors, and policy exceptions.

- Bachelor's Degree in Business, Operations, Finance, or related field AND 4+ years experience in program management, process management, or process improvement OR equivalent experience.

- 5+ years of experience in program management, product management, procurement, finance transformation, business operations, consulting, or related disciplines.
- Experience leading large cross-functional initiatives involving multiple stakeholder groups.
- Demonstrated success driving process transformation, operational improvements, and technology-enabled business change.
- Demonstrated builder mindset with the ability to independently create dashboards, prototypes, automations, data solutions, and executive-ready insights that accelerate transformation outcomes.
- Demonstrated ability to leverage AI tools, agents, and automation capabilities to accelerate analysis, business process design, solution development, stakeholder engagement, and program delivery.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Experience presenting recommendations, business cases, strategic roadmaps, and data-driven insights to senior leaders and executive stakeholders.
- Ability to translate business problems into process designs, business requirements, prototypes, mockups, dashboards, or proof-of-concept solutions.
- Experience with Travel & Expense platforms, payment solutions, procurement systems, or finance processes.
- Experience managing technology-enabled transformation programs.
- Experience leveraging Microsoft Copilot, Power Platform, low-code/no-code tools, generative AI solutions, or similar technologies to improve business processes and productivity.
- Experience creating wireframes, mockups, journey maps, process flows, or prototypes to communicate future-state solutions and accelerate stakeholder alignment.
- Experience in supplier relationship management and strategic sourcing.
- Experience building Power BI, Microsoft Fabric, Tableau, or similar dashboards and reporting solutions.
- Strong data visualization, analytics, and data storytelling capabilities, with the ability to translate complex data into actionable executive insights.

Business Program Management IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $97,600 - $188,400 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $125,000 - $206,400 per year.
