The Battery Cell Manufacturing Process group develops innovative processes that enable robust manufacturing for next-generation battery cell designs. This leadership role offers the opportunity to lead a team advancing new battery cell formation and production automation technologies in support of GM’s electrification vision.
What You’ll Do
- Champion safety in all development activities
- Lead development and implementation of new automation and formation processes for battery cell manufacturing
- Supervise and develop a team focused on advanced battery cell manufacturing processes
- Recruit, coach, and develop team members
- Set technology roadmap objectives aligned with GM’s electrification strategy
- Manage development budgets and lab resources
- Lead specification, procurement, and qualification of prototype equipment and tooling
- Partner with battery cell design, research, and manufacturing teams to bring new concepts into production
- Lead technical engagements with external partners and support co-development strategies
- Present project updates, development concepts, and recommendations to leadership
- Drive continuous improvement, root cause analysis, and corrective actions
- Apply lean principles and structured problem-solving tools in process development
- Provide technical direction to support teams, vendors, labs, and plant manufacturing teams
- Travel as needed for meetings and site visits
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering or a related field
- 5+ years of relevant engineering or manufacturing experience
- 3+ years of experience in battery cell process development
- Strong knowledge of electrochemical engineering
- Experience leading external technical partnerships
- Experience leading implementation of new technologies or processes
- Strong communication, collaboration, and project management skills
- Demonstrated ability to work independently with sound technical judgment
Preferred Qualifications
- Statistical problem-solving training
- Experience in manufacturing plant operations
- Experience with lean manufacturing and continuous improvement tools such as Minitab, Red X, or DFSS
