Position Summary

The Project Manager (Tool Hookup Mechanical) manages the day-to-day engineering, scheduling, and tactical construction execution for electrical power distribution, instrumentation, and control hookups within a semiconductor foundry. Operating on the production floor and sub-fab, this role coordinates directly with trade contractors, field engineers, and equipment vendors to ensure individual manufacturing tools are connected safely, on schedule, and in strict compliance with technical designs. The position carries direct responsibility for resolving field issues, enforcing construction quality, and driving the electrical hookup sequence for assigned tool sectors.

Role and Responsibilities

Here’s What You’ll Be Responsible For:

  • Primary field contact for mechanical and piping trade contractors, coordinating daily work packages and resolving immediate constraints on the cleanroom floor.
  • Coordinate tactical handoffs between facility infrastructure teams and tool-specific installation crews to maintain steady progress.
  • Monitor and report daily on schedule milestones, manpower levels, and material installation rates for assigned toolsets.
  • Review contractor-submitted Requests for Information (RFIs) and Field Change Orders (FCOs), validating field conditions before escalating for approval.
  • Walk the field daily to enforce strict construction safety standards, zero-tolerance high-pressure/chemical safety rules, and cleanroom protocol compliance.
  • Oversee the physical installation and routing of Ultra-Pure Water (UPW), chemical delivery, industrial wastewater, and bulk/specialty gas lines from local valve boxes directly to the tool chassis.
  • Supervise the layout, connection, and testing of general, acid, ammonia, and solvent exhaust lines from the tool to the main sub-fab collection headers.
  • Utilize 3D models in the field to resolve routing conflicts between complex piping runs, exhaust ducts, and neighboring electrical or structural systems.
  • Direct and document critical field quality checks, including helium leak testing, analytical gas testing, hydrostatic pressure testing, and visual high-purity weld inspections.
  • Coordinate the lockout/tagout (LOTO), line flushing, and initial chemical/gas introduction sequences for individual tools, ensuring all lines are safe to activate.
  • Generate, track, and systematically close out mechanical punch list items to achieve final system acceptance and handover.

Skills and Qualifications

Here's what you'll need:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Construction Management, or a related technical discipline; or equivalent practical experience (e.g., advanced pipefitter/millwright background with extensive industrial leadership).
  • 4+ years of project management or field engineering experience in large-scale industrial piping, mechanical, or high-purity utility construction.
  • Minimum 2 years of direct experience executing construction or tool install activities within an active semiconductor cleanroom environment.
  • OSHA 30-Hour Construction certification is required; Certified Construction Manager (CCM) or initial CAPM/PMP certification is a plus.
  • Solid understanding of industrial mechanical installations, including high-purity orbital welding, plastic fusion welding, pipe sloping, and duct connection methods.
  • Practical knowledge of specialized piping materials used in wafer fabrication, including PVDF, PFA, and Electropolished Stainless Steel (316L EP).
  • Practical knowledge of cleanroom protocols (Class 10 to Class 1000) and procedures required to prevent particulate or chemical contamination during active pipe cutting and modification.
  • Proficiency in navigating and extracting data from digital information modeling viewers (e.g., Autodesk Navisworks) and project management software.
