The System Operation Engineer role supports the safe, secure, and reliable operation of transmission and distribution networks. Responsibilities include providing engineering advice to front-line teams, managing engineering standards and processes, overseeing operational engineering systems, and leading risk mitigation efforts through contingency and network risk response planning. The position also manages network access, oversees complex outage planning, and utilizes a temporary generator fleet. Continuous improvement is driven by detailed engineering analyses and collaboration with Control & Operations and engineering units.

About the role
This role provides critical engineering and operational planning support to ensure the safe, secure, and reliable operation of transmission and distribution networks. Actively supporting network operations, the position delivers tactical engineering advice to front-line teams, manages engineering standards and processes, and oversees operational engineering systems. Additionally, it takes a leading role in risk mitigation by managing processes for contingency planning and network risk response to maintain network stability during disruptions.
The position also manages network access and oversees complex outage planning, which includes the deployment and management of a temporary generator fleet. Driven by a commitment to continuous improvement, the role conducts detailed engineering analyses to identify and advocate for system and process enhancements. To achieve this, it serves as a key collaborative bridge, actively liaising with Control & Operations teams alongside engineering and network services units across the wider business.
This position is covered by the Powercor & CitiPower & ASU, PA UWU Enterprise Agreement. The salary range for this role is Pay Point 20 ($147,328) – Pay Point 24 ($172,391) + 13% of super + allowances.
