Description
Position Objective:
The Medical Assistant (MA) Workforce Instructor is responsible for the development, delivery, and evaluation of an internal Medical Assistant training and apprenticeship program. This role supports workforce pipeline development by preparing internal candidates to successfully transition into MA roles within ambulatory practices.
The instructor will lead a structured curriculum that combines classroom instruction, skills training, and clinical application, ensuring learners demonstrate competency in both clinical and administrative functions. This role partners operational leaders, preceptors, and the Essential Skills Team to ensure alignment with organizational standards, workflows, and patient care expectations.
Essential Job Duties:
Program Instruction & Facilitation
- Deliver a structured MA training curriculum (didactic and hands-on instruction).
- Facilitate classroom sessions (in-person and/or virtual) for assigned cohorts.
- Provide instruction on:
- Clinical skills (vitals, injections, EKGs, point-of-care testing).
- Infection prevention and safety.
- Patient intake and documentation.
- Ambulatory workflows.
Clinical Skills Training
- Demonstrate and evaluate core MA competencies.
- Conduct skills labs and simulations.
- Ensure adherence to clinical standards and scope of practice.
- Validate competency through skills checklists and assessments.
Apprenticeship & Preceptor Collaboration
- Partner with clinic preceptors to support on-site training experiences.
- Provide guidance and oversight to preceptors.
- Conduct regular check-ins with learners during clinical rotations.
- Ensure consistent training experience across practices.
Curriculum Development & Continuous Improvement
- Collaborate with leadership to design and update curriculum.
- Align training with organizational workflows (e.g., Epic, scheduling, patient access).
- Incorporate feedback from learners, preceptors, and leaders.
- Support program evaluation and outcome tracking.
Learner Evaluation & Progress Monitoring
- Assess learner performance through exams, skills validation, and observation.
- Provide coaching, feedback, and remediation plans as needed.
- Track attendance, progress, and completion rates.
- Ensure learners meet competency requirements prior to program completion.
Operational & Leadership Collaboration
- Partner with:
- Ambulatory operations leaders.
- Patient Access and Support Services (PASS).
- Essential Skills Team.
- HR and Talent Acquisition.
- Align program output with workforce needs and staffing plans.
Educational/Experience Requirements:
- Associate or bachelor’s degree in healthcare, education, or related field preferred.
- Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant program required.
- 3–5 years of experience as a Medical Assistant in an ambulatory setting.
- Prior teaching, training, or preceptor experience strongly preferred.
- Experience with Epic preferred.
- Strong instructional and facilitation skills.
- Ability to coach and mentor adult learners.
- Knowledge of ambulatory workflows and best clinical practices.
- Strong communication and organizational skills.
- Ability to manage multiple cohorts and priorities.
Required License/Certifications:
- Certified Medical Assistant (CMA, RMA, or equivalent) required.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) required.
