About the role:
As a Senior Engineering Manager, you’ll lead a portfolio of high-performing software teams across a meaningful domain of the hipages marketplace. Leading through Engineering Managers and Tech Leads, you’ll be accountable for people, delivery, technical health, and business outcomes across multiple squads.
This is a role for a leader who operates beyond the single-team level. You’ll set technical and delivery direction, develop the leaders beneath you, and connect engineering execution to commercial strategy. You’ll help your teams build reliable, high-quality systems that are well-prioritised, operationally sound, and continuously improving.
You’ll also play a key role in shaping how engineering works in an AI-native world. You’ll treat agentic engineering, AI-augmented delivery, and evolving team models as core levers for how your domain operates, not as side experiments.

How you will add value:
- Lead through Engineering Managers and Tech Leads, coaching them as leaders and holding them accountable for team health, delivery, and technical quality.
- Own technical and architectural direction across your domain, ensuring designs are coherent, fit for purpose, and aligned to hipages’ standards.
- Set the engineering quality bar across CI/CD, testing, observability, security, incident response, and operational health.
- Partner with senior Product and Design peers to shape domain strategy, challenge scope and sequencing, and ensure engineering effort is invested where it creates the greatest customer and commercial impact.
- Own end-to-end delivery across multiple teams, including planning, execution, dependencies, risks, and measurable outcomes.
- Build and maintain a clear technical roadmap that balances architecture, operational health, and feature delivery.
- Identify and manage cross-team risks early, including dependencies outside your domain.
- Ensure teams have clear, measurable OKRs that ladder up to coherent domain outcomes.
- Lead AI-forward ways of working by helping teams understand how AI changes throughput, team shape, roles, skills, and product opportunities.
About you:
- • You have 6+ years’ experience in engineering leadership, including at least 3 years leading multiple teams or Engineering Managers, ideally in a product-led technology business.
• You lead delivery through outcomes, not process, and are comfortable applying modern agile principles at multi-team scale without relying on a rigid framework.
• You have a strong technical foundation and can earn the respect of senior engineers, challenge architectural decisions, and make credible build, buy, or defer recommendations.
• You have proven experience developing Engineering Managers, not just engineers, and you enjoy multiplying your impact through the leaders below you.
• You have navigated, or are actively navigating, the shift to AI-augmented engineering and understand how AI changes team shape, throughput expectations, and engineering craft.
• You communicate with credibility across senior stakeholders and can translate technical complexity into business stakes without oversimplifying.
• You bring strong commercial judgement and can connect engineering investment to customer and business outcomes.
• You are comfortable prioritising ruthlessly when resources are constrained and can explain the trade-offs clearly.
