The Junior Accountant supports the Finance team by delivering accurate and timely financial processing across accounts payable, accounts receivable and general accounting activities. This role is responsible for maintaining the integrity of financial records, supporting month-end processes, and contributing to the efficient operation of the finance function. Working collaboratively across the business, the Junior Accountant provides high-quality financial support while identifying opportunities to improve processes and continuously developing their accounting knowledge and skills.
What you'll do:
- Process accounts payable and accounts receivable transactions, including supplier invoices, payments, customer invoicing and receipts, accurately and within required timeframes.
- Reconcile supplier statements, customer accounts, bank accounts and general ledger balances, investigating and resolving discrepancies where required.
- Monitor outstanding receivables and support collections activities to maintain healthy cash flow.
- Maintain accurate creditor, debtor and financial records within the accounting system.
- Oversee internal credit card processing and Zoho system administration.
- Prepare journals and support month-end and year-end financial close activities, including balance sheet reconciliations and reporting.
- Assist with BAS, FBT and other statutory reporting requirements, budgeting, forecasting and financial reporting activities.
- Support external audits and ensure financial records comply with organisational policies and regulatory requirements.
- Respond to finance-related enquiries from internal stakeholders, customers and suppliers in a professional and timely manner.
- Build effective working relationships across the business to support efficient financial operations.
- Identify opportunities to improve finance processes, controls and efficiencies, while contributing to finance projects and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Demonstrate a commitment to ongoing learning, collaboration and the delivery of accurate, high-quality financial support.
What you'll bring:
- Tertiary qualification in Accounting, Finance or a related discipline.
- Previous experience in a Junior Accountant, Accounts Officer, Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable or similar finance role.
- Experience using accounting systems such as Xero, MYOB, Business Central, SAP or similar.
- Intermediate to advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
- Sound understanding of accounting principles, financial processing and reconciliation activities.
- Strong attention to detail with a high level of accuracy and organisational skills.
- Ability to prioritise work, manage competing deadlines and adapt to changing priorities.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving and communication skills.
- High level of integrity, professionalism and ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Ability to work collaboratively while taking ownership of individual responsibilities.
- A proactive approach with a willingness to learn, develop and contribute to continuous improvement within the Finance team.
