CPH has an opening for the following position: Survey Instrument Man.
The Survey Instrument Man is responsible for operating and maintaining survey instruments and equipment to support field survey crews in collecting accurate data for engineering, construction, and land development projects. This role assists the Party Chief in setting up field operations, performing measurements, documenting field notes, and ensuring all survey data is collected efficiently, safely, and accurately. The Survey Instrument Man plays a key role in delivering high-quality survey results that support project design and execution.
- Operate and maintain survey instruments, including total stations, GPS/GNSS receivers, data collectors, digital levels, and other related equipment.
- Assist the Party Chief in establishing control points, staking, boundary surveys, topographic surveys, and construction layout.
- Ensure all equipment is calibrated, functioning correctly, and properly secured for transport.
- Collect accurate field data and maintain detailed field notes and sketches as required.
- Set up tripods, prisms, rods, and other equipment at designated survey points.
- Follow instructions to obtain precise horizontal and vertical measurements.
- Perform routine equipment checks and report issues or malfunctions.
- Maintain awareness of job site conditions and adhere to all safety protocols.
- Assist with loading, unloading, and organizing survey equipment and materials.
- Communicate effectively with the Party Chief and field crew regarding measurements, obstacles, and project conditions.
- Support the crew in ensuring all assigned tasks are completed on schedule
- Preferred experience operating surveying equipment and using TOPCON Magnet software.
- Strong understanding of basic surveying principles, field procedures, and measurement techniques.
- Ability to operate survey equipment such as total stations, GPS/GNSS units, levels, and data collectors.
- Knowledge of land surveying terminology, coordinate systems, and field documentation practices.
- Ability to work outdoors in different weather and terrain conditions.
- Detail oriented, quality conscious, reliable and self-motivated.
- Valid state-issued driver's license with a clean driving record
Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or GED required
- Minimum of 1-2 years of experience in land surveying or a related field preferred.
- Experience working with survey instruments and data collection tools required.
- Relevant certification or technical training in surveying technology and equipment is a plus.
