Cahaba Valley Animal Clinic is seeking a compassionate, dependable, and cross-trained Veterinary Assistant to join our growing small animal general practice team. This role is ideal for a veterinary professional who enjoys hands-on patient care while also providing exceptional client service and front desk support when needed.
As a primarily clinical position, you will assist veterinarians and technicians with patient care, treatments, and hospital operations. In addition, you will be cross-trained to support our Client Service Representative (CSR) team, providing front desk coverage during lunches, days off, vacations, and other scheduling needs. The ideal candidate is comfortable balancing animal care responsibilities with client communication and administrative tasks.

Veterinary Assistant Responsibilities
- Assist veterinarians and veterinary technicians with patient care and treatments
- Safely restrain patients for examinations, procedures, and diagnostics
- Obtain patient histories and accurately document information
- Prepare exam rooms, treatment areas, and equipment
- Assist with laboratory sample collection and in-house diagnostics
- Administer medications and treatments as directed by the veterinarian
- Monitor hospitalized patients and communicate concerns to the medical team
- Maintain cleanliness and organization throughout the hospital
- Support surgical and dental procedures as needed
Client Service Representative Responsibilities
- Greet clients and patients with warmth and professionalism
- Answer incoming phone calls and schedule appointments
- Check patients in and out efficiently
- Process payments and maintain accurate client records
- Communicate clearly with pet owners regarding services, appointments, and recommendations
- Provide front desk coverage during lunches, days off, vacations, and other staffing needs
- Previous veterinary assistant experience preferred
- Veterinary reception or customer service experience strongly preferred
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Strong attention to detail and organizational abilities
- Ability to multitask in a fast-paced veterinary hospital
- Positive attitude and willingness to support the entire hospital team
- Compassion for animals and the people who care for them
- Experience with veterinary software is a plus
