A government hospital in Abu Dhabi is seeking a Consultant Psychiatrist to provide comprehensive psychiatric assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and ongoing management for patients across various care settings. The role involves leading multidisciplinary teams, delivering evidence-based care, promoting mental health awareness, and ensuring compliance with UAE healthcare regulations. Responsibilities include conducting evaluations, developing treatment plans, prescribing medications, providing crisis intervention, and collaborating with other healthcare professionals. The position also involves supervision, teaching, research, and quality improvement initiatives.
To provide comprehensive psychiatric assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and ongoing management of patients with mental health disorders across inpatient, outpatient, emergency, and community care settings. The Consultant – Psychiatry is responsible for delivering evidence-based, patient-centered mental healthcare, leading multidisciplinary teams, promoting mental health awareness, and ensuring compliance with UAE healthcare regulations, government hospital policies, and international clinical standards.
Conduct comprehensive psychiatric evaluations, including mental status examinations, risk assessments, and diagnostic assessments for children, adolescents, adults, and older adults, as applicable to the assigned service.
Diagnose and manage a wide range of psychiatric disorders using evidence-based clinical practices and internationally accepted treatment guidelines.
Develop individualized treatment plans incorporating pharmacological, psychological, behavioral, and psychosocial interventions.
Prescribe, monitor, and adjust psychiatric medications while evaluating therapeutic response and potential adverse effects.
Provide crisis intervention and emergency psychiatric consultations for patients presenting with acute mental health conditions.
Assess and manage patients at risk of self-harm, suicide, violence, or other psychiatric emergencies in accordance with hospital policies and applicable legislation.
Collaborate with psychologists, social workers, occupational therapists, nurses, primary care physicians, and other specialists to provide coordinated multidisciplinary care.
Conduct ward rounds and manage inpatient psychiatric admissions, treatment, and discharge planning.
Participate in multidisciplinary case conferences, clinical reviews, and discharge planning meetings.
Provide psychoeducation and counseling to patients, families, and caregivers regarding diagnosis, treatment, recovery, and relapse prevention.
Maintain accurate, timely, and confidential documentation within the Electronic Medical Record (EMR).
Supervise and mentor specialist physicians, residents, interns, and allied healthcare professionals where applicable.
Participate in teaching, research, Continuing Medical Education (CME), and professional development activities.
Contribute to quality improvement initiatives, clinical audits, patient safety programs, and accreditation activities.
Participate in on-call duties and emergency psychiatric coverage as required.
Perform additional duties assigned by the Medical Director or Head of Department within the approved scope of practice.
