Description
Have you ever ordered a product on Amazon and wondered how it arrived so fast? Behind every delivery is a vast, sophisticated transportation network spanning multiple countries and carriers. The EU Transportation Procurement team is at the heart of this operation — managing nearly €5 billion in annual transportation spend, negotiating with the largest postal operators and express carriers in Europe, and continuously innovating to deliver faster, cheaper, and more reliably for hundreds of millions of Amazon customers.
Amazon seeks a Head of Procurement EU, to lead a large part of our European Transportation Procurement organization. This is a senior leadership role with strategic ownership of the largest Procurement portfolio within EU 3P Transportation by both annual spend and program count. The portfolio spans outbound programs (UK, Ireland, Spain, Portugal, and Cross Border) as well as non-outbound programs (Inbound, WePay, FBA and Vendor Returns).
The successful candidate will be an entrepreneurial leader who combines sharp commercial acumen with the ability to build and inspire high-performing teams. They will drive multi-country carrier strategies that balance cost optimization, service quality, capacity security, and innovation — all while navigating a fast-paced environment where decisions directly impact the customer delivery experience at enormous scale.
The role is located in #### and will involve travel to the countries you cover. You will partner closely with Retail Country Managers, DEX, Finance, Legal, Strategic Planning and 3P Transportation Operations teams.
ROLE SCOPE
This is a senior leadership role with end-to-end responsibility for defining, developing, and implementing transportation procurement strategies across multiple EU countries and transportation programs:
• Outbound: United Kingdom, Ireland, Spain, Portugal, Cross-Border
• Non-Outbound: Inbound Supply Chain, WePay, FBA, IPCP, Vendor Returns (VRET)
The Head of Procurement leads a team of Procurement Managers and Buyers responsible for carrier sourcing, contract negotiation, supplier relationship management, and contract performance optimization. The role carries direct accountability for a portfolio approaching €1 billion in annual addressable spend and requires partnership with senior Amazon leadership at L8 and L10 levels across the EU.
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES
• Define and own the multi-year EU transportation procurement strategy aligned to Amazon’s growth plans, cost targets, and customer experience goals
• Lead and develop a high-performing team of Procurement Managers and Buyers; attract, retain, and grow top talent
• Drive carrier sourcing strategies across multiple countries: identify, qualify, negotiate, and onboard carriers to optimize Amazon’s competitive position
• Own negotiations with national postal operators (e.g., Royal Mail, Correos, An Post) and express carriers such as UPS, DHL Express), securing favorable commercial terms at enterprise scale
• Deliver significant year-over-year cost savings while maintaining or improving service quality (speed, DEA, Concessions, and customer experience)
• Establish and operate carrier performance management frameworks: define KPIs, run QBRs, Top-to-Top meetings, drive continuous improvement, and manage underperformance
• Establish solid relationships with Transportation Suppliers at CCO and CEO levels to ensure carrier responsiveness when securing transportation capacity for peak periods (Prime Day, Peak/Holiday season) through proactive carrier engagement
• Partner with Finance, Legal, Operations, and country Ops leadership to align procurement strategies with business objectives
• Drive innovation in carrier services, sustainability initiatives, and delivery speed improvements
• Develop and maintain robust contract frameworks and templates; ensure compliance and commercial governance as per Spend and Transaction Policy
• Represent EU Transportation Procurement in internal and external executive forums; prepare and moderate strategic reviews with senior Amazon leadership and carrier C-suite
• Champion AI best practices across the EU procurement organization; identify and scale successful GenAI approaches across programs and use cases
